Hai Wang is a PhD candidate in Communication at the University of Washington, specializing in international journalism, technology, and international relations, with a regional focus on China and Thailand. Drawing from his four-month transnational fieldwork across Thailand and China, his dissertation sheds light on the complex dynamics of Thailand-based Chinese media expats as they navigate their roles within the geopolitical and journalistic landscape. He also held a visiting researcher position at the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). Prior to his PhD, Hai amassed 5 years of experience as a journalist and global media expert, where he cultivated a deep understanding of Southeast Asian affairs. At the UW, Hai has served as the instructor for COM 303 Social Effects of Technology and COM 383 Qualitative Communication Research Methods on multiple occasions and through various delivery methods.
