Dana Robinson Slote

Dana Robinson Slote is a results-driven communications strategist with a twenty year career in political service and the public sector. She brings deep experience in media relations, social media, crisis communications, speech-writing and message development to her role as Director of Media Relations for the University of Washington. Dana leads the work of a ten-person UW News team, which serves as the central media relations office for the University of Washington and works to demonstrate the University’s unique impact to communities across our state and around the world through media relations and digital storytelling. From feature stories and news articles highlighting world-changing research, to UW Today – the UW’s flagship ‘paper of record’, UW News is responsible for increasing the visibility and enhancing the reputation of UW and its experts. Before joining the UW News team, Dana worked as a ‘press secretary’ on numerous issue and candidate campaigns at the State and Federal levels.  In more recent roles, Dana led the communications efforts for the nine member Seattle City Council for more than a decade; and, she served as Director of Communications for the 24-member WA State Senate Democratic Caucus in Olympia. Dana is originally from Edmonds, WA and earned a Bachelor’s in Art from Western Washington University and a Master’s in Communication and Organizational Leadership (ORGL) from Gonzaga University.
