Karen began her career working on the Space Shuttle program at Rockwell International as a loads analyst. She taught herself how to code web pages just when the World Wide Web was getting popular. She left the space program and started work as a freelance web designer and developer in 1995.
Karen has worked with graphic designers on projects for large companies like CSUN, PacifiCare, and St. John’s Hospital. Her current work is for smaller organizations who need a web presence or need their website re-designed. She does everything from information architecture to content development to interface design to graphic design to coding.
Her specialties include front-end web development (HTML and CSS), user interface design, the mobile web and responsive web design. Examining and critiquing the usability of web sites, games and other interfaces is a passion. Interests outside teaching and web design include gaming, World of Warcraft, women’s soccer (go Reign FC!), comic books, science, technology, and learning new things.
