Sam Ladner is a sociologist who studies the changing nature of work, technology, and organizations. She is a senior researcher at Microsoft, where she studies emerging productivity practices and their implications for technology design. Her research is featured in Microsoft’s current Future Productivity Video. She is the author of Practical Ethnography: A Guide to Doing Ethnography in The Private Sector. At UW, she will be an adjunct teaching strategic forecasting. She is a regular speaker at international conferences such as the Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference. She received her PhD in sociology from York University and currently lives in Seattle with her husband.
