Matt Bellinger is an Affiliate Instructor in the Communication Leadership Program. His scholarship focuses on the narratives, metaphors, and tropes that people use to make sense of emerging media technologies, and the process by which new technologies move from being unfamiliar and anxiety-inducing, to familiar and routinized. His current research project explores these themes by examining the discourse of the early Bitcoin community, with any eye toward understanding the impact of initial Bitcoin metaphors and tropes, on subsequent debates over valuation, development, and governance in cryptocurrency communities.
Matt earned both a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Communication at the University of Washington. He has been an instructor in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington and taught “Introduction to Interpersonal Communication” for Seattle Pacific University.
