Emerald City Comicon: “Motion Books and the Evolution of Storytelling” by Liam Sharp

Artist/writer Liam Sharp (Judge Dredd, X-Men, Spawn) shows how his current venture, Madefire, is bringing original and licensed properties to life as digital motion books in his talk, “Motion Books and the Evolution of Storytelling.”

The panel was part of the inaugural Comics and Digital Culture Series, presented by the University of Washington Communications Leadership (Comm Lead) Graduate Program and Emerald City Comicon. The event also featured talks from Ted Adams (Publisher/CEO of IDW Publishing), Allison Baker (co-publisher, Monkeybrain Comics), and Yen Yen Woo and Colin Goh (educators and co-creators, Dim Sum Warriors), and was moderated by Comm Lead faculty Rob Salkowitz.

Emerald City Comicon: “Dim Sum Warriors” by Yen Yen Woo, Colin Goh


Yen Yen Woo and Colin Goh demonstrate their engaging bi-lingual manga app, Dim Sum Warriors, that’s fast becoming a global transmedia story sensation.

Allison Baker, co-publisher of the digital comics imprint Monkeybrain Comics, discusses how digital distribution is changing the landscape for comic creators from a business and financial standpoint in her talk,”Springboard to Oblivion? The Promise and Peril of Digital Comics for Independent Creators.”

Emerald City Comicon: “Comics and the Expanding Media Universe” by Ted Adams


Ted Adams discusses V-Wars, a sci-fi epic based on the work of author Jonathan Maberry that IDW will feature across comics, books and digital media in 2014 in his talk, “The Big Story: Comics and the Expanding Media Universe.”
